Grades 4–5 at 314:
Why you shouldnow join

Cycle 3 is a pivotal stage. It bridges the gap between elementary school and middle school, between the curious child and the independent student. At 314 International School, it’s also the time when everything picks up speed—in two languages, with hands-on learning, and through critical thinking.

At 314, the 4th and 5th grade class is no ordinary class. It’s Les Visionnaires —a bilingual French-English learning environment where every child develops their thinking, explores their questions, and prepares for entry into the international middle school fully ready.
01

Bilingualism that goes to the heart of the matter

At 314, we don’t just teach English as an extra subject. We learn in English —and that’s a fundamental difference. Our motto says it clearly: we don’t learn two languages; we learn IN two languages.

In fourth and fifth grade, students engage in full immersion: science, geography, world history, FabLab projects—everything is taught by switching between the two languages naturally, depending on the subject and the context. This isn’t translation. It’s bilingual thinking.

The result: by the time they finish fifth grade, our students aren’t just “good at English.” They think, reason, and create in both languages. This gives them a decisive advantage in international middle and high schools—and throughout their entire lives.

02

Learning to question the world—for real

At Les Visionnaires, each term is organized around a central inquiry question that students explore together across all subjects. It’s not a checklist of concepts to tick off—it’s a genuine research process that gives meaning to every learning experience.

These questions run through the history of civilizations—from prehistory to contemporary ecology—linking mathematics, science, the arts, and language into a coherent whole. A child does not “make” the history of prehistory: they investigate what names and bodies tell us about who we are and where we come from. It’s a nuance that changes everything.

  • 6 major historical periods in the cycle, from the Paleolithic era to today’s environmental challenges
  • Bilingual research questions, updated annually over a two-year cycle
  • Project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, and hands-on creation
  • Explicit development of cross-disciplinary skills: critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and commitment

I have spent my entire career teaching at independent international schools. And I sent my own daughters to those same schools, from preschool through high school. I know exactly what these educational paths lead to—and why they work.

Singapore Math: Math That Builds True Mathematicians

The Singapore Math method is not just another curriculum—it is one of the most effective approaches in the world for building a deep and lasting understanding of mathematics. It is based on a rigorous progression: concrete → visual → abstract.

At 314, our fourth- and fifth-grade students don’t just learn procedures. They understand why mathematics works. They visualize problems, model them, and solve them with a flexibility that traditional methods don’t offer.

A student who has studied Singapore Math starts middle school with a head start—not because they learned faster, but because they learned differently and more deeply. It is this solid foundation that we build at 314.

04

The FabLab: create, fail, try again, invent

314 International School has a FabLab that is integrated into the curriculum —not as an extracurricular activity, but as a learning space in its own right, linked to classroom projects and research topics.

In grades 4 and 5, students learn to work with professional tools: Bambu Lab 3D printers, xTool laser cutters, scalable robotics, electronics, and design thinking. Building is always connected to understanding.

Toward International High School: Tailored Preparation

Fourth and fifth grade aren’t just years of consolidation—they’re the two years that shape the kind of student your child will be when they enter the international 6th grade. Independence, critical thinking, the ability to argue a point in two languages, and the ability to see a project through from start to finish: these are exactly the skills that international middle schools are looking for.

At 314, this preparation begins on day one—not at the end of fifth grade, in a rush. Our guided self-directed learning approach (individual work plans, flipped classroom, regular self-assessment) equips students with the skills to take charge of their own learning.

4th Grade — Explore & Understand

Establishing methods, fostering independence, and introducing the first bilingual research questions.

5th Grade — Explore & Create

Complex projects, bilingual oral presentations, and active preparation for the transition to an international middle school.

6th International — Ready from Day One

Our students arrive with the curiosity, bilingual fluency, and independent learning skills that top-tier institutions expect.

The next step is already planned: Middle School 314 is coming

Enrolling your child at Les Visionnaires means joining a program that doesn’t end in fifth grade. 314 International School is actively preparing to open its own middle school—a natural extension of the journey that began in elementary school, maintaining the same bilingual approach, the same commitment to excellence, and the same culture of innovation.

Students who join 314 at the start of the 2026 school year will grow alongside the school. They will be the first to benefit from an educational experience designed entirely as a coherent continuum—from preschool through 9th grade—without any breaks in methodology, changes in culture, or compromises on academic standards.

Enrolling at 314 today means choosing an exceptional elementary school. It also means securing a spot in a comprehensive educational program designed to support your child all the way through middle school.

Your child is a perfect fit for 314.

Let's meet before the start of the school year in September 2026. Space is limited, and the first families are already signing up.
